Well, unfortunately, you know, we can do everything we can to try to save a tooth. Sometimes our efforts, you know, cause us to have to remove the tooth. We do provide that service in most cases. If the patient needs sedation, you know, and we can do it orally or, you know, with nitrous, we can do it here for them.
You know, if they feel like they have to be, you know, sedated with an IV, then we can refer them to one of our capable oral surgeons. And then they can have the tooth, you know, removed. Restoratively, depending on, you know, on where the tooth is, we can then, you know, treatment plan a bridge or partial, or an implant, or, you know, a denture. You know, it just depends. So there’s a wide variety of options, you know, after, you know, tooth loss.

Save Your Oral Health With Dental Surgery
Rusch Dental Group is proud to offer oral surgery services in addition to our general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry. We strive to provide comprehensive care for our patients at our New Castle location. We have invested in training and technology to provide these surgical services:
- Tooth Extractions – We want to save teeth any time that is possible. When it’s not, we can gently remove the problem tooth or teeth. We can then advise you on your tooth replacement options, including implants. Extractions can also be beneficial to prepare for orthodontic care or to make room for dentures or other restorations.
- Bone Grafts – Missing teeth can lead to bone loss. If you are thinking of getting dental implants, a bone graft may be needed to secure and support those implants.
Our goal is to make any dental procedure as simple as it can be for you. That includes taking steps to make your treatment as painless as possible. With our sedation options, you can feel at ease throughout your appointment.

There are several situations where we may recommend oral surgery to improve your oral health. If a tooth is so damaged or diseased it can’t be repaired, you’ll need to have it removed. A bone graft can help renew your jawbone and prepare it to receive dental implants, which we can also place in our office.
After your oral surgery, you should not exercise at all for the first 24 hours. Doing too much too soon can increase your healing time. For example, strenuous exercise can loosen the blood clot on an extraction site and cause a painful condition known as dry socket. After the first day, limit your exercise to low-impact activities for several more days to prevent complications.
You’ll need to avoid smoking for at least 12 hours prior to oral surgery (and 24 hours after). We perform most oral surgeries using only local anesthesia, so you’ll be able to enjoy a light meal several hours beforehand. We’ll give you more specific instructions. It’s a good idea to take off work or school for at least a day or two, depending on the kind of surgery you receive.
